Meet the… Make Up Artist

Want an insight into the life of a make up artist? We interviewed our make up artist, Siobhan, to find out all about her job & her top tips for the perfect make up!

How did you get into make up?

I have always had a passion for make-up. With so many friends and family encouraging me to use my knowledge and creativeness on other people’s faces, I decided to get myself a quality makeup kit together and become a freelance makeup artist. I really took the plunge & jumped in at the deep end and I’ve never looked back.

What do you love most about your job?

I love transforming people’s faces and watching their reaction when they see the finished look in the mirror.

You do everything from fashion photoshoots to semi-permanent make-up application, which is your favourite & why?

I enjoy all aspects of make-up but I think my favourite at the moment is semi permanent make-up. Even though there’s added pressure to get the application perfect, I love a good challenge and I love to push my boundaries. I’ve only been a semi-permanent make-up technician for 6 months so I’m still learning and improving my skills.

What’s your top tip for looking flawless & ready to go in 10 minutes?

My top tip to look flawless and ready to go in 10 mins is to always use a good quality foundation brush or sponge to blend your foundation. Use a small amount of foundation and blend in small circular motions, it really does give you an even coverage creating the perfect base for a flawless finish. Add highlighter on your brow bone, cheek bones and cupids bow to create a healthy natural glow.

What are your three must have products when out & about?

Invisible HD Powder – This luxurious powder feels silky and soft to touch but appears invisible on the skin as it blends effortlessly with your makeup, leaving your complexion radiant and shine-free.
Clinique chubby stick – This is a sheer soft lip colour that relives dry cracked lips. It’s light and non-sticky but gives you the perfect moisturised lips.
Eyelash curler – When out & about don’t keep applying more & more mascara, just pop an eyelash curler on those eyelashes to get perfect luscious lashes.

What is your favourite make up look right now?

My favourite make up look right now is Charlotte Tilbury’s golden goddess look. The honey toned cheekbones, glowing skin and gleaming eyelids are perfect for this season. I love adding a few temporary metallic tattoos on hands for that bohemian influence.

Who’s face would you love to work your magic on?

I would love to work on Kate Middleton’s face. She’s such a natural beauty so it would just be using the correct product to emphasise her best features giving her a natural flawless finish.

Any tips for anybody wanting to become a make up artist?

My tips would be to build up a fantastic make-up kit with all different make-up brands and products. Shadow an establish make-up artist so you can get a feel for what the industry is about. Finally, practice, practice, practice!
